In this interview, Karen talks to FX Trader Magazine about the tough path she had to go through to live her dreams and
become a recognized financial and motivational
expert in Asia. She shares with us her trading method and unveils how she became a successful forex trader.
FXTM You are the winner of Singapore’s 2015 nationwide trading contest and you were also ranked in the top 10 out of 3000 traders in FX Street’s international contest. Can you tell us what brought you to online trading?
KF In 2008, my family lost our entire life savings from the financial crisis. I realized back then that I needed an alternative source of income so that, in the event that the next economic downturn hit, I would be able to fall back on a money-making skill that I can rely on. Experiencing that massive financial loss as a teenager also made me realize that having a regular 9 to 5 job is not a life goal that I would
want to pursue anymore, because nobody can guarantee that our job is secure nowadays with so many retrenchments and layoffs going on.
Initially, I started out as an online trader to make money. However, as I progressed on, I found out that I needed a higher purpose other than making money. Right now, I make it a promise to myself that I would donate a portion of my profits to charity every year. Tis would also motivate me to trade well and constantly develop myself as a trader.
FXTM How did you become a successful trader? Have you attended courses, read trading books, have you learnt
with a trading mentor? KF
When I first decided to become a trader, I read tons of online articles and read a lot of books to find the right system. I was also attending a lot of trading seminars and previews in my spare time to find the holy grail. I then realized one very important thing. Te problem that aspiring traders experience nowadays is not the lack of information, rather it is information overload. I was so overloaded with systems, techniques and online tips that I ended up confused rather than becoming a better trader.
In addition to that, I also went to university to pursue a degree in finance.
