Power outages, popularly known as dumsor [locally, this means ‘on/off’] are imminent in Ghana as the power sector is on the verge of losing 600 megawatts of generation last month (February 2017). Four new gas-fired combined heat and power (CHP) plants have come online at two South African data centres. The plants, supplied by MTU Onsite Energy, provide onsite power, heating and cool- ing for telecoms firm Mobile Telephone Networks Ltd (MTN) at two facilities near Johannesburg.
