The trailer indicates what sort of genre the film Miss Sloane will be, which is revealed to be a political thriller with a strong female lead revolving around a controversial topic, it being gun control.


In the opening shots of the trailer, the eponymous character Miss Sloane directly speaks to the camera and gives a monologue about her job as a lobbyist and how its about ‘foresight’ and ‘anticipating your opponent’s moves’, which sets the tone of the film, that she will try whatever means necessary to achieving her goal. This also creates a sense of determination for her battle against opponents.


The exterior shots of famous monuments, such as the Thomas Jefferson memorial and the Capitol building, envision that the film is set in Washington D.C. and revolves around American political issues. In addition, with panoramic shots of fundraising galas and businessmen in high class offices, this displays the decadence of DC’s political elite, and that Miss Sloane will be battling against them


The trailer also highlights the scenes featuring people marching in the streets protesting gun violence and of Miss Sloane in a debate. This further shows how the film will revolve around political affairs and the common occurrences that happen among American political issues.


Since the film is a political thriller there are many aspects and genre conventions which are common. Such as, bribery, extortion, fraud, embezzlement, hacking and assault. By outlining these key features of the film, this will attract people who likes the genre to watch the film.
