Dirk van Beest founded the Van Beest company in 1922, initially as a supplier of iron works to the dredging industry.
“Large investments have resulted in a highly automated production process, which eliminates manual production errors,” van der Zalm pointed out. “Te result for clients is a highly reliable product, in both its dimensions and performance.” Te Green Pin® factory in Sliedrecht (Netherlands) uses a method of upset-forging, which, according to van der Zalm, “ … has the benefit of causing virtually no steel waste—leading to a more attractive price … ” on top of creating “ … components with a smoother surface, causing less wear of wire or synthetic rope.” Chain accessories, because of their complexity, do not use upset-forging, but at the French Excel® factory, heavy automation is still key. “Te challenge for both factories,” van der Zalm explained, “is not so much a technical one, but a commercial one. Automation requires specific dyes for every production step, and to make the creation of those dyes economically viable, we have to produce in large volumes. For every product we add to our assortment, this needs to be weighed carefully.” Van Beest’s continued commitment to in-stock
inventory is a similar balancing act, driven first and foremost by a commitment to its customers. “How does our customer ultimately benefit from waiting for a Green Pin shackle or turnbuckle they need, right now?” asked van der Zalm. “Simple answer: they don’t. And if they don’t benefit, we don’t.” With that in mind, Van Beest has developed a philosophy of retaining high inventories for all their products and distributors. “We see it as our mission to enable our customers to get their lifting job done” continued van der Zalm. “To us, that means high- quality Green Pin shackles, turnbuckles, and sockets that exceed regulatory and safety norms, and equally important, that are there when you need them. It may sound like boilerplate talk, but we follow through on our words with actions.”
