Book Fred. Olsen's 'Maori Culture & Polynesian Paradise' cruise shown on pages 34-35 and you'll have the choice of starting your holiday early in Peru. Gain authentic insight into traditional Andean life; visit the vibrant Peruvian city of Cusco with its wealth of heritage sites; journey across the Sacred Valley; and see the remarkable ruins of the Incan Empire, at Machu Picchu.
Day 1 Guests who have booked this extension in addition to the fly-cruise package on cruise W1803 will depart from London on a flight to Lima. Our local representative will meet you at the Jorge Chavez International Airport and direct you to your bus transfer to the Casa Andina Private Collection Miraflores hotel. Guests who have booked this extension in addition to the cruise only package on cruise W1803 will need to arrange their own flight and transfer.
Day 2 An early start begins with a transfer to the airport for your flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, you’ll be taken out to lunch before continuing on to your hotel, Casa Andina Sacred Valley. The afternoon will be at your leisure, allowing time to acclimatise to the altitude before your evening meal.
Day 3 Your guide will take you to the Andean Village of Chincheros. During this morning tour you will meet with the local Quechua-speaking farmers and weavers. This rare experience offers insight into a more traditional way of life, from wood-fired, mud- brick stove cooking methods and age-old agricultural techniques, to textile demonstrations. Lunch will be hosted by the Orihuelas family at Hacienda Huayoccari, where you’ll be able to view their private collection of artefacts. In the afternoon, you’ll journey through the valley to the fortress of Ollantaytambo, where an inhabited Incan town can still be found today. After a fulfilling day exploring, you’ll return to your hotel for dinner.

Day 4 After checking out of your hotel, you’ll board a train to Aguas Calientes. Large panoramic windows will provide excellent views during your journey. Upon arrival, a refreshing lunch will be served, before your short drive to Machu Picchu – the
’Lost City of the Incas’. Here you’ll be able to theorise about the mysteries of this abandoned city, explore the ruins and marvel at its awe-inspiring beauty. On your return you’ll be provided with a box dinner. A bus transfer will complete your journey from Ollantaytambo to Cusco and the Libertador Palacio del Inka hotel. Your luggage will be waiting for you here.
Day 5 A morning city tour of Cusco will begin with the Sacsayhuaman fortress – a true testimonial to Incan architectural expertise. Its strategic, hill-top location provides excellent views over the city and surrounding countryside. A visit to the sacred site of Koricancha (Temple of the Sun) and the Baroque- style cathedral will follow. Returning to the hotel for lunch, the remainder of the afternoon will be at your leisure. Dinner will be served at the Pre- Columbian Art Museum, which was once an Incan ceremonial court.
Day 6 After breakfast you’ll depart for Cusco Airport for your flight back to Lima. A transfer will be waiting at Lima to take you to the nearby port of Callao, where you’ll join Black Watch to continue your exploration of Peru, before sailing to the Polynesian Islands and New Zealand.
