Callao is not only the starting point for this epic journey of exploration, but also your gateway to the Peruvian capital, Lima. Before setting sail you will have the chance to savour Lima’s Spanish colonial structures and experience all the hustle and bustle of the busy Indian Market. From Callao your ship will cruise to the thriving deep water port of Paracas. Situated just a short distance from here are the beautiful islands of Ballestas – affectionately known as Peru’s ‘mini-Galápagos’ – which can be reached via boat. Alternatively, you can head off on ‘The Pisco Route’ to learn about and sample varieties of the famous Peruvian brandy.
Black Watch will then glide across the Pacific Ocean, stopping at a string of stunning islands along the way. Hanga Roa is the stopping point for taking in Easter Island’s fascinating archaeological sites and remarkable Moai head statues; a scenic cruise past the volcanic island of Pitcairn will be an equally memorable experience. Countless photo opportunities await you in the spectacular French Polynesian islands of Tahiti and Bora Bora: lush landscapes, breathtaking white-sand beaches and
a slice of the paradise lifestyle.
Next you’ll step ashore at unspoilt Rarotonga, following in the footsteps of Captain James Cook, before finally sailing onwards to New Zealand. Top of the wishlist for many, it’s packed with variety. Contrasting sights and experiences can be discovered during a day in Auckland. See the soaring Sky Tower which dominates the manmade cityscape and indulge in a little retail therapy on Ponsonby Road. Or perhaps visit natural attractions nearby: highlights include the unique Waitomo Glowworm Caves and the laid-back island retreat of Waiheke.
The naturally and historically important Bay of Islands is also yours to explore. Here you can choose to join a tour to the Waitangi Treaty House – the symbol of New Zealand’s birth as a nation; see gigantic Kauri Trees up close at a protected reserve; or even paddle in a traditional Maori canoe. If you choose to take a boat trip to the famed ‘Hole in the Rock’, keep your eyes peeled as you may spot dolphins and other magical marine fauna. This incredible cruise will then come to an end in the iconic Australian city of Sydney.
