Situated on the Pacific Ocean, Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands have a stunning landscape of lush forests, snow-capped mountains, miles of sandy beaches and warm waters. Accessible by ferry from Vancouver and Seattle, visitors come here to enjoy the myriad of outdoor activities such as golfing, fishing, boating, whale watching, hiking, and skiing. Whether visiting local artisans, strolling on a beach, taking in a local festival or experiencing the history and attractions of Victoria, the provincial capital, Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands is a destination for everyone.

Island Highway 19 Nanaimo to Port Hardy Scenic Drive On the eastern coast of Vancouver Island starting from Nanaimo, travellers can head north on Highway 19 for 391 km (243 mi) to the city of Port Hardy, Vancouver Island’s gateway to the Inside Passage. Unless you are taking the ferry north to Prince Rupert or Bella Coola you must turn around and retrace your steps. On the way recommended stops include Parksville, Qualicum Beach, Comox, Courtenay, Campbell River, Sayward, Telegraph Cove and Port McNeill. Side trips to Heriot Bay, Strathcona Park, Gold River and Zeballos are also available.

Pacific Marine Circle Tour The Pacific Marine Circle Tour is a short 255 km (158 mi) journey along Vancouver Island’s remote coasts, and offers beautiful views of the Juan De Fuca, Haro, and Georgia Straits. The quiet ambiance of the island Island relaxes visitors with views of quiet parks and oceanside towns. Note: Sections of the route are secondary roads without a centre line. There are narrow parts with a number of single lane bridges over several scenic streams. As well, you will encounter hairpin bends and bumpy roads.
