LOCATED at Swann’s Nursery, Bromeswell, Pixie Jo’s Empo- rium is a great shop selling crafts, upcycled furniture, retro and vintage items. Opened in June 2016, this is the brainchild of Jo Tooke and her mother Sonia Jacomb. This is a business that came

about out of passion, interest and necessity. Jo was a student nurse when her daughter became ill. Having been diag-

nosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Jo needed the flexi- bility of working for herself to have time to care for her daugh- ter. So, having always had a pas- sion for art – she excelled at school – she decided this would be her new direction. As Jo says, life gave her lemons and the shop is her lemonade. So, what will shoppers find at

Pixie Jo’s? Jo rents shelf space to 17 crafters and more are

being added regularly, as well as having work from six artists that she sells on commission. This works well for all parties. It is a great way of getting shop space for local crafters and artists and it gives Pixie Jo’s a lovely selec- tion and variety of interesting and unique products. This really is a great place to come and find gift ideas and decorative items for your home. The selection currently includes: Book folds, woodturnings, jewellery, needle felting, babies knitwear, hand- made wooden toys, candles, ceramics and glassware. The painted and upcycled fur-

niture is what Jo adds to the shop. Finding a piece of furni- ture that is in need of sprucing up is what she enjoys the most. Giving a new lease of life to something with a fresh coat of paint or a stencilled pattern/ design really does create some stunning results. As well as sell- ing her furniture in the shop she also stocks the specialist paint that she uses; this is a brand called Frenchic and it is chemi- cal free, pet and child friendly, odourless and goes on any sur- face. Pixie Jo’s is one of just three stockists in Suffolk. An important part of the busi-

ness is the painting service, where customers can commis- sion Jo to paint items that they have in their home or business, from wardrobes to kitchen cup- boards to dining tables and any- thing in between! As well as selling everything

you need to upcycle your own furniture, Jo is always on hand to offer advice and help and will also hold classes and workshops for those that are interested in learning more. There will also be a variety of classes in other crafts with either Jo or a guest expert. Jo is helped in the shop by her

mother, Sonia. With Sonia in the shop, Jo will be heading out to more shows and fairs over the coming months so you are sure to be seeing more and more of this great family business. If you have not had a chance to

RHYMES NURSERY

At Rhymes we offer a child led approach to learning, letting the children’s interests lead the way with our planning.

Putting Families First

The early years foundation stage (EYFS) is the curriculum for children from birth to five years; play opportunities are diverse and available to all children. Our early year’s practitioners teach and support the children and make sure that activities are unique to the child’s needs. The key person will track chil- dren’s progress on a regular basis to make sure that all chil- dren are working within or above the appropriate age relat- ed development band.

Woodbridge focusses on providing an education in which academic results are highly important, but ultimately can only be achieved by innovative approaches to teaching and

learning, excellent extra-curric- ular provision, outstanding pas- toral care, and a particular emphasis on the personal devel- opment of its pupils. The central aim of a Wood-

bridge education is to help equip our students with the qualifica- tions, personal attributes and characteristics that they will need to thrive in a rapidly chang- ing world.
