and passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2016. Joyce was a resident of Eastport, Maine at the time of her passing. Joyce Kin- ney graduated from Shead Memorial High School class of 1941 W.S. Normal School in Machias class of 1945 the U. of Maine at Orono in 1948 where she also received her Masterâs in Education in 1955. She was married to Grover. A funeral service will be- gin at 3:00 p.m. Friday October 7th at Blakey Memorial United Methodist Church High St. Eastport. Burial will follow at Hillside Cemetery Eastport. sity’s College of Business Administration, was the son of Mabell and J. Earle Chan- dler, of Rumford. He was married to Donna Holmes Chandler in 1954 and later to Pearl Arnheim Nibur in 1986. Chandler, an U.S. Air Force offi cer and
reservist, began his civilian career in his fa- ther’s mercantile establishment in Rumford, before moving to Bangor. He worked at Cortell-Segal before opening his own store, J E Chandler, Ltd., in Orono in 1963. The business moved to Bangor and then Brewer, and also had a summer location in Northeast Harbor. He then became the Director of the Maine Marine Trade Association, which he did for a number of years and later started the Maine Boatowner’s Association in the 1990s. Not content with retirement, Chan- dler worked in economic development and chamber of commerce management, in Belfast and Biddeford/Saco, attaining his CAE certifi cation. He relocated to Estero, Florida in 2009. Jim was an avid boater and was active in
the United States Power Squadron, Penob- scot Bay, as well as serving on the District 19 Bridge. He enjoyed cruising the New England coast in his Viking 33, and later a Hatteras 53, both named WINTERSONG. A music lover, Jim was a longtime member of the Anah Temple Shrine Band, playing tenor sax and clarinet. He enjoyed reunions with his Alpha Kappa Psi brothers in Boston and Florida. no formal services. The family will host a memorial gathering in Maine at the time of interment in the spring of 2017. He grew up in Randolph, Massachusetts and was a gradu- ate of Randolph High School, class of 1960. He graduated from Boston College with a bachelor of science in geology in 1964 and proceeded to attend the University of Mis- souri in St. Louis to obtain a master of sci- ence. His work in graduate school allowed him to travel extensively in South America and Hawaii. This was also where he met his lifelong friends, John and Mary Miller, and had many adventures with them. While pur- suing his master’s, he volunteered to serve his country and was sent overseas to Kimpo Air Base in Korea as an Army 1st lieutenant. He separated from his post with honorable discharge as a captain having served as the company commander of headquarters of the 2nd Engineering Group. Joe decided to take his time getting back to the United States and traveled throughout Southeast Asia. Upon return from the Army, Joe fi n-
Joseph J. Jackimovicz Joseph James Jackimovicz, 74, died
peacefully on the morning of January 5, 2017 after a short, but hard fought battle with leukemia. His beloved wife Ruth was by his side. Joe was born in Brockton, Massa-

Joe was working at the Mas- sachusetts Department of Natural Resources but his passion for wooden boats could not be denied so he moved to Virginia to learn wooden boat building intimately. Joe and his wife decided to move back to the Northeast and settled on Boothbay, Maine, a place they had stayed while on their honeymoon. Joe took a position at Chet Rittall’s boatyard in Boothbay Harbor before taking over the helm at Sample’s Shipyard where he spent his boatbuilding career, some 30+ years. He was the mainstay of the yard, continuing
