MASCF/de Broc 23 January (Day 79): MAÎTRE COQ’s
(Jérémie Beyou) fi nish has been delayed by light winds the last three days. Right behind him three competitors (Jean-Pierre Dick, Yann Eliès and Jean Le Cam) could possibly fi nish within two hours of each other for fourth through sixth. Beyou crossed the fi nish in third place
at 1940 UTC. This was his third Vendee Globe, but the fi rst time he fi nished. In 2008 and 2012, he was forced out of the race with technical issues. He had technical issues this time too, but was able to work through them. He sailed 27,101 nm at an average speed of 14.43 knots.
Thomson, who sailed HUGO BOSS to
a second place fi nish has announced that he will compete in 2020 if he can put together a competitive program. Thomson said he wanted to see the continued development of the foiling appendages, but wants to make sure that safety and costs are priorities. The cost of the foils are three or four hundred

25 January (Day 81): Race headquar-

Early in the race he made a tactical error and then had technical problems and this put him behind the leaders in diff erent weather patterns. He also suff ered a penalty after going below the Antarctic Exclusion Zone. Just twelve miles back, was QUE- GUINER-LEUCEMI ESPOIR(Yann Elies) who fi nished at 1513 hrs. UTC in fi fth place. His time was 80 days, 3 hours, 11 minutes and 9 seconds. He sailed 27,132 miles with an average speed of 14.1 knots. He has al- ready announced that he would like to return for the 2020 Vendee Globe.
