Upbeat Needs Help in a Good Way!! First Humor The Verbal Commute

Santa Rosa, CA. ~ I had to make the font big enough so I could see what I was writing this month. It
is the realiza-
tion that I can no longer see the details of small type, let alone what the contents are of the fork I’m about to put in my mouth. It cracks me up! Up till now my eyes were close to my pen & paper when drawing il- lustrations…but no more. I now have the assistance of 1.50 reader glasses. Adorned around our household items, such as lamps, are over 10 pairs of reading glasses. Mainly for my wife, she needed them before I did. I joked about it too, be- cause she’s younger than I am. T ank goodness she has a sense of humor. She sure got me back though, when, suddenly I ex- claimed, “Geez! Can I borrow your glasses?” I needed them to read some small type on a legal document” She exclaims, “See!! I told you they would come in handy!” Luckily I can see at great distances! “See that tree out there around a hun- dred yards away?”, (I’d be ask- ing a friend jokingly), “T ere’s a bee trying to get nectar from a fl ower, but it looks like an aphid is getting in the way”. Best part is, these subtle
changes come slowly. I’m not saying I’m getting old or any-

thing at all, but it could be my computer getting in the way. Images are usually at 72 dots per inch, but reality isn’t. Oh well…I’ll just roll with it. As you may know, this is our
19th year of publishing the Up- beat Times. Little did I know I’d be publishing for that long, but, I guess when a person is having fun, time fl ies! I am still hum- bled when I receive a digital picture of someone holding the Upbeat Times in some remote part of the world. So cool! And, it seems to be growing! T e other part of the Upbeat Times business is the advertisements we receive from business own- ers. With out them we wouldn’t have a printed version of this paper. But, eventually I need help from a few people out there who would love to help me with advertising. I don’t know, someone retired, some- one enthusiastic, honest, fun and easy going that can talk to people about advertising in our newspaper. We reach so many people every month and we get the paper out on time like clockwork one time per month, 12 times a year! But I could re- ally use a few good people, to volunteer to reach out to busi- ness and let them know, we’re it! No other paper focuses en- tirely on good news like we do!

No-one! Like in last month’s column I mentioned, we need my paper more than ever! But I need a few of you to help me. Maybe someone who has been reading the paper for a long time to help me. T e person makes their own hours. You are an independent contractor. I will pay you for the ads you bring in! (even if you are a vol- unteer) I especially need help because
I cannot do the paper entirely on my own any longer! T is is also good news. So, if it is not you can help me with this pub- lic request, maybe it is some- one you know who is the most upbeat person you know and would be perfect for this oppor- tunity! It would be perfect for a communications major fresh out of college, or someone who specializes on communications and media. T ey are the type of people who can talk to just about anyone, but do it with fi - nesse, respect, tact & class! At the same time not take them- selves too seriously and, most of all…have fun & make a few dollars along the way! Please call and leave a referral of this ideal person at 707-494-1767 or e-mail advertising@upbeat-
times.com. Another way you can help is to refer a business owner to us to advertise & place
an ad or series of ads (better re- sults). In the next many months we have some really fantastic papers arriving. We just added sports trivia
to the paper. Our goal is to en- tertain, have fun and enjoy life. Upbeat Times is a way of life I and many others love. Easy-go- ing, relaxed fi lled with educa- tion, smiles, thoughts and posi- tive content primarily meant to entertain. T e world is not perfect in it
any way, but is not a bad
place either, contrary to what you see. If you see the good in the world, the fun, the light and the inspirational…we want to know…it’s our job! We are Up- beat with the Times! May this issue fi nd you well!

A man went to his lawyer and told him, “My neighbor owes me $500 and he won’t pay up. What should I do?” “Do you have any proof he owes you the money?” asked the lawyer. “Nope,” replied the man. “OK, then write him a letter asking him for the $5,000 he owed you,” said the lawyer. “But it’s only $500,” replied the man. “Precisely. That’s what he will reply and then you’ll have your proof!”
