AMERICAN BALLET THEATRE: WHIPPED CREAM Satisfy your sweet tooth without the guilt and take a trip into a colorful

THE CRUISE “Bon Voyage” theatre lovers! Get ready to set sail with the Latino Theater

Company and the world premiere of Los Angeles-based playwright, Jonathan Ceniceroz’sThe Cruise. The play that explores themes of identity and its relationship to history, in a new socio-political comedy set on board a luxury ocean liner. Ceniceroz is known for work that expresses an unapologetic view of contemporary gay life, reflecting on its own otherness and exclusion, as well as its inherent warmth and humanity. He also stands out as a unique voice in the field of Latino writers, because many of his themes investigate the point of view of the “pocho,” or assimilated, Latino in U.S. culture. “WithThe Cruise, I wanted to explore the sense of dislocation that so many of us feel in today’s society,” explains Ceniceroz. “Ramón and James(lead characters) are third and fourth generation Latinos who have lost touch with their heritage. We don’t usually see the immigrant experience from that perspective—the assimilated, ‘pocho’ point of view. But, I don’t think that a sense of fractured identity is limited to any one demographic. It’s a universal issue that everyone can relate to. And, it all takes on a new resonance in the age of Trump.”Director Heath Cullens offered this, “Jonathan tackles a lot of big issues in this play, like politics and sexual identity, but it’s all wrapped up in a very simple story about a father and son. The reason The Cruiseis so effective, is because its core is so human, emotional and true. Plus… it’s very funny!” The Cruise playsFriday, March 10 through Sunday, April 9 at The Los Angeles Theatre Center. For tickets and more information, call 866.811.4111 or go tothelatc.org.
