LAMBDA LITFEST Lambda Literary traces its 1987 beginnings to Washington D.C.’s Lambda Rising Bookstore and owner L. Page (Deacon) Maccubbin’s first Lambda Book Report celebrating the best in lesbian and gay literature. The Lambda Literary Awards followed in 1989, a celebration of LGBT authors, helping to give them national visibility and spreading their titles to LGBT publishers and the bookstores springing up across America. Since those early years, the 501(c)(3) organization has sponsored many awards, developing the Writers Retreat for Emerging LGBT Voices and LGBTQ Writers in School Program, along with the Lambda Literary- funded and staffed online presence at lambdaliterary.org. A place that “celebrates, supports, serves, informs, entertains and connects the whole of the brilliantly diverse community that creates and supports lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans literature.” New this year, in celebration of the diverse traditions of the South- land’s LGBT literary world, the first annual Lambda LitFest is taking place from Monday, March 6 through Sunday, March 12 in Los Angeles. The free event features readings, discussions and opportunities to mingle throughout local L.A. neighborhoods, with a Sunday evening closing party at Akbar in Hollywood. 2017 OUTFEST FUSION LGBT PEOPLE

OF COLOR FILM FESTIVAL Founded in 1982 by a group of UCLA students who felt the best way

to forward LGBT equality, was to do it by encouraging and promoting those stories on a film screen…And thus the Outfest Film Festival was born. Organizers realized that there was a growing need to recognize the contributions of another group within and that is how the OutFest Fusion came to be. It is the only multicultural LGBT film festival of its kind, dedi- cated to nurturing, showcasing and protecting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people of color. Now in its 14th year, Outfest Fusion takes place at several locations throughout L.A. fromWednesday, March 1 through Tuesday, March 7, featuring short and feature film screenings, filmmaker Q&As, networking events that celebrate the LGBT community’s diversity, along with filmmaking workshops. “We have reached a moment in Hollywood’s history where the discussion on diversity has extended to the mainstream,” said Christopher Racster, Executive Director of Outfest. “For the past 12 years, Fusion has been at the forefront of showcasing filmmakers of color, and we are proud of the multiplicity of voices that have been represented at this festival.” New this year: The “One Minute Movie Contest,” themedI HOPE…/I FEAR… It’s a unique way to encourage new voices and bring them into the broader Outfest family. For a full schedule of screenings, events, locations and tickets, or more information, go to outfest.org/fusion2017.
