Interior Design Let the renovation begin….

Over the years I’ve carried out a lot of projects, however the process and the order of works is always the same whatever the project size. I thought that sharing our renovation journey might be useful to you -hopefully there’ll be some ideas you can pick up along the way.

Let’s start with space planning. This is the most important thing to get right and where a designer or architect is worth their weight in gold if you can’t visualise it yourself. These are our original and proposed plans for downstairs, still a work in progress as you can see by my use of red pen!

you can simply close the door on the mess and pretend it never happened!

• Get a connection with the outside, and think about how you’ll move from inside to outside in the Summer. Bear in mind also that huge expanses of glass look great, but how will it impact on your furniture placement?

• Plan storage in now. Ensure your windows and doors are planned so that you can squeeze storage along your walls. A long run of cupboards in a hallway for example, is incredibly useful.

Here’s a few of my top tips when it comes to space planning

• My number one tip - live in your home for a while before making any changes. This way you’ll get a good feel for the way the light comes in, the way you use your house, what features you really need.

• Create a good family space. Modern living now tends towards eating casually around a kitchen table rather than in a formal dining room. The downside with open plan living is a potential lack of “cosiness” and for everything to be “on show”. Look at having doors so you can make some spaces private if needs be. If it’s a playroom,
