Heart of Kent Hospice –here for you now and in the future

AS DOWNS Mail readers will know, Heart of Kent Hospice has been hit hard by the uncertain economic climate

It now needs to reduce its ex- penditure by £574,000 annually, as well as raise an additional £600,000 this year to ensure the long-term financial stability of the hospice.

Regretfully, this means that 12 positions are being made redun- dant due to the lack of funds. Sarah Pugh, Chief Executive

says “All redundancies are regret- ful, and we are disappointed that we have had to make these changes.

“Throughout this challenging

time, our goal has been to min- imise the impact on our patients and their families and we con- tinue to be committed to provid- ing the 566 patients currently in our care, the support they need, when and where they need it.” “In addition to making cost sav- ings, Heart of Kent Hospice is ap-

pealing to its local community to ‘Get Behind’ them as a donor, fundraiser or volunteer. “When we first meet a family,

they are often surprised to learn that we are an independent char- ity, andwe have to raise £4 out of every £5 we spend but funding is increasingly difficult to secure” says Ann-Marie Kelly, Director of Income Generation. “Our donors often give because

they want to express their grati- tude for the support we have given to them and their loved ones, or they want to ensure that we are here for them, if they ever need us. “To make sure we are, we need

to raise an additional £600,000 this year, and recruit more volunteers in to a wide variety of roles. Our volunteers are the bedrock of our organisation.”
