SPEAKERS Pete Hodgson


Pete graduated as a Sports Scientist and had the intention of becoming a professional stuntman before he decided to move onto less exhausting work in Human Resources, and more specifically as an Employee Relations expert. Pete has a Masters degree in Human Resources Management, lives with his wife, two energetic sons and Douglas the dog. He also is able to fit in being Head of Employee Relations for Tesco and is a trained negotiator.


Karl Cockerill


Karl has been a union steward for 16 years representing NHS staff in Primary Care Trust and acute hospital trust settings. He is a keen advocate for ADR and was recently appointed Occupational Health & Wellbeing Practitioner specialising in mediation for East Lancashire Hospitals Trust. Karl is currently working with the Occupational Health and Staff Engagement Services at ELHT to introduce more person-centred approaches to improve employee retention, reduce stress-related absence to help staff feel valued as individuals by their organisation.


David Whincup


Following 10 years at a Magic Circle firm, David has been head of Squire Patton Boggs’ London Labour & Employment Practice since 1994. His expertise gained from over 30 years as a specialist employment law practitioner covers a wide variety of employment-related issues, including individual and team recruitment issues, disciplinary and grievance procedures, the defence of employee discrimination and dismissal claims and other litigation, whistleblowing, data protection and matters surrounding confidentiality and intellectual property in the workplace. He is an accredited CEDR mediator and speaks and writes widely on the topic.
