SPEAKERS
Caroline Sheridan
Caroline is Chair of the CMC’s Workplace and Employment group and a Board member effective February 2017. She is a leading mediator recognised in Legal 500 and Chambers UK and an Executive Coach specialising in behavioural change. With a strong corporate background and a reputation for resolving disputes and strengthening professional relationships at every level, she is delighted in her role at the CMC to be given the opportunity to drive awareness of workplace mediation and its benefits across the UK.
Sir Alan Ward
Sir Alan Ward was called to the Bar by Gray’s Inn in 1964 taking silk in 1984. In 1988 he was appointed a judge of the High Court assigned to the Family Division, was elevated to the Court of Appeal in 1995 and retired in 2013. He gave many judgments extolling the virtues of mediation and berating the parties and their lawyers for not engaging in it. On his retirement, he was appointed the Chair of the Civil Mediation Council, recognised by the Ministry of Justice to be the voice of mediation.
Sir Brendan Barber
Sir Brendan Barber was appointed as the Chair of the Advisory, Conciliation and Arbitration Service (Acas) in January 2014. He was the General Secretary of the TUC from 2003 to 2012. He is a member of the Banking Standards Board, the Council of City University London and also on the Board of the Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts. Sir Brendan was knighted in the 2013 Birthday Honours for services to employment relations.
Professor Paul Latreille
An economist by background, Paul’s research is in applied labour economics and employment relations, focusing on the resolution and management of workplace conflict, including mediation/ADR and Employment Tribunals. Recognised as an international authority in this area, he has published extensively for both academic and policymaker/practitioner audiences, and has led and/or worked on funded projects for various bodies including the European Commission, Ministry of Justice, Acas, TUC, Low Pay Commission, and the former DTI/BERR/BIS.
Rob Alcock
Rob’s experience of people and organisations is rooted in a BBC career spanning thirty years and before that in the commercial sector with Marks & Spencer. He is currently Head of Training at the BBC Academy and has a background in talent rights negotiation. An accredited Workplace Mediator and also an Executive Coach accredited through the ICF, Rob practices both disciplines working with the BBC’s internal coaching and mediation networks.
Mark Clements
Mark is a senior HR professional with 30 years’ experience within the Banking, Media and Electronics sectors. Mark currently manages a number of Employee Relations experts as part of Sony Europe’s HR Governance team. Mark has been operating at the sharp end of HR for a number of years and has dealt with a multitude of complex and sensitive HR issues including major business restructures, defending employment tribunal claims, death in service cases and settlement cases and of course workplace mediation!
