JUST THE FACTS Established in 1915
670,000 members of all ages and abilities in 83 nations and geographic areas around the world
The Gettysburg Adams Kiwanis Club is working on a big project to benefit children in the Adams County community – a new playground at the Gettysburg Rec Park. Located at the southwest corner of the Charles Sterner Recreation Building, this all-inclusive, wheelchair accessible playground will offer a safe place where children of all physical abilities can come together and play, allowing them to build a stronger community as well as strong bodies.
Each year, Kiwanis clubs: • Sponsor nearly 150,000 service projects • Raise more than $100 million • Devote more than 18.5 million hours to service
The club is currently in the fundraising phase of the project, which will cost an estimated $100,000. The goal is to raise the needed funds and break ground this summer. The club will raise funds for the project at Adams County’s Got Talent, a talent show featuring youth grades 5-12, on Sunday, Feb. 12, at 3 p.m. at the Aspire Hotel. Tickets are available at the Gettysburg Times office.
Already WellSpan Gettysburg Hospital is on board with a large $15,000 donation, along with many other donors. But the club has a long way to go. Businesses and individuals can make a 100% tax deductible donation to the project by writing a check to the Gettysburg Area Recreation Authority (GARA), the Kiwanis non-profit partner.
