Q: Do you feel that using technology for pre-and post-trip inspections are making school buses safer?
A: Tere are so many components on the bus that need to be checked. Items such as the emergency doors. Are they opening and
closing as they should? Are the windows operating properly? Is the stop arm working? What about the flashing lights? Te list goes on and on.

And it’s become apparent that it is almost impossible to do pre- and post-trip inspections accurately without technology. On top of that, it is becoming imperative that schools are documenting the pre- and post-trip inspections, as well as tracking the repairs of the defects found. Technology, when used correctly, ensures schools are inspect- ing all of the components required for pre-and post-trip inspections. Technology does provide schools with an audit trail, including information, such as who did the inspection, how long did the inspection take, what defects were found and what measures were taken to address those issues. However, in the end, technology is only as good as the human who is using it. Collecting data for the sake of data doesn’t ensure safety. Data only ensures safety when the information is acted upon.
