Chamber Day hits the water on May 4


AVALON — Scuba divers are invited to explore the bottom of Avalon Bay during the 42nd annual Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber’s Chamber Day that provides guests with a full day of diving.


Scheduled for May 4, the largest single-day scuba charity event in the United States raises funding for the facility that operates under the mission to keep divers safe. The main event is Chamber Day, which includes two dives at Catalina, a walking tour of the chamber facilities at the isthmus, a t-shirt and five


daytime raffle tickets. Cost is $110 (plus $30 for food and air fills for the boat). Another option for those who would like to participate but are unable to make it to the island is the Flying Dutchman. Cost is $95 and includes five daytime raffle tickets and a special limited edition t-shirt.


The Chamber Challenge is for those who would like to contribute directly to the cause. First you donate then you challenge your friends to match your donation. Raffle tickets can also be purchased for $1 per ticket. Chamber Evening is a fun-filled

night that wraps up the annual event. Co-sponsored by the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, attendees will have access to the aquarium and a sit- down dinner in the aquarium’s Great Hall. A raffle will also be held. Tickets are $110. Ten Chamber Day Fleet boats will be shuttling divers to and from diver sites. Participating vessels include Asante, Cee Ray, Giant Stride, Hattitude, Pacific Star, Perfect Mistress, Second Stage, Sundiver, Sundiver Express and Westerly. The first Chamber Day attracted about 200 divers and netted about $15,000 for the USC Catalina


Hyperbaric Chamber. Now the event has grown to include more than 1,000 divers who participate in Chamber Eve and Chamber Day events. A little more than $121,000 was raised at last year’s event. For more information, or to
