customers up to a $300 rebate towards hardware and subscription with a new IC bus. Te current program was extended last month to offer the rebate on new buses built after Aug. 1, 2015 and delivered through Aug. 31, 2016.
STN: Has OnCommand positively impacted school bus operations in a way that IC Bus did not anticipate prior to releasing it? If yes, how so? Reed: It’s too early to tell, but I think the benefit of bringing the value of a telematics solutions focused on remote diagnostics to customers not currently using a solution has been an opportunity larger than we first thought.
STN: How does OnCommand affect preventive maintenance schedules? How can fleet managers and technicians use onboard diagnostics like OnCommand to track and perform maintenance the falls outside of normal preventive maintenance practices? Reed: Te goal of OCC is to help customers be focused on “scheduled downtime,” for example PMs and avoid unscheduled downtime by better understanding fault codes and suggested actions or knowing there is something going on with bus before it leaves the bus lot. Remote diagnostics allow maintenance needs to be planned in advance and when convenient, saving time and money. Te maintenance model transforms to proactive versus reactive. Greater uptime can be realized by monitoring bus health in real-time, instead of the standard method of operator initiated paperwork, which can cause delays and unplanned downtime. Key pre- and post-trip functions are also monitored helping mainte- nance teams and operators.
STN: What kind of training is IC University pro- viding school bus technicians in terms of learning and using OnCommand? What can customers learn about OnCommand during training visits to the Tulsa school bus plant? Reed: IC Bus remains committed to providing school bus technicians the training they need by sponsoring IC Bus University, a customer-focused training program for technicians, developed to optimize service and mainte- nance proficiency and broaden technician knowledge of IC Bus products, including the newly released OnCom- mand technology. Since 2008, more than 1,750 school bus technicians have participated in the program. IC Bus became the first school bus manufacturer to offer formal factory training for technicians. Te program includes a full plant tour of the IC Bus facility in Tulsa and com- prehensive information on parts, service, OnCommand, new products and technology and maintenance.
