Connecting with Connectivity Exciting stuff in your “Connectivity” article (www.stnonline.com/go/7k).

Tere is a comment near the end about districts that follow HIPAA “to the letter.” Tey are not following it to the letter. Tey are not following it. Schools are exempted from HIPAA, so the folks who are refusing to share information on the grounds of HIPAA are just wrong.

Warm Response to Houston’s Call for Seat Belts on all Buses

Great! I would please also request that you somehow address an issue that I have been trying to discuss for several years! Tat is the issue of children in wheelchairs that ride on school buses. Are you aware that many children who have neck and head control and some that have the ability to sit up straight without assistance do not have headrest and/or chest harnesses on their wheelchairs? Tis fine for home and school, but on a school bus where they often only strap the wheelchair down, this can be a very danger- ous situation in an accident or even if the driver has to slam on the brakes to avoid an accident!! Every child that rides in a school bus in a wheelchair must, must have a secure sturdy headrest and a snug chest harness on the wheelchair! Very often insurance vendors will not pay for that if the child has head and trunk control, and we must fight to change that!

Margaret DePaula, comment on Facebook 3-Point Weapon? What happens when the seat belt is used as a weapon and takes out some-

one’s eye, or the bus goes into a river or lake? But you can be sure no one will bother to ask a veteran bus driver how they feel about seat belts in a school bus.
