From Odeons to High Rise:
The Photography of John Maltby
From Odeons to High Rise: The Photography
of John Maltby is an exhibition that examines
the work of one of Britain’s finest architectural
and social photographers, John Maltby
(1910–1980), whose archive is held by the
RIBA Library Photographs Collection.
Beginning with a commission for the Odeon
cinema chain in the 1930s, Maltby enjoyed a
long-lasting and diverse career that embraced
work for architects, manufacturers and
designers, among them Tecton, the Design
Research Unit and Sir Terence Conran, in
addition to a clutch of magazines.
