Search online for local make up artists’ websites and social media accounts and review their background, previous clients’ testimonials and portfolios of their previous work. Ensure that you like their style of work.

It’s essential that you feel comfortable and relaxed with the person that you book. You should feel able to ask for any detail of your make up to be changed or tweaked without feeling embarrassed or awkward. The “getting ready” part of your wedding day is a very special time for a bride and your chosen make-up artist should be organised, patient and have a calming influence on you. A proficient make-up artist will be happy to have a non-obligational chat with you over the phone about their services, policies and procedures prior to booking.

What can I say except choose quality! As with anything in life you generally get what you pay for and if an artist’s prices seem considerably cheap, it may be wise to question why.

One of the many decisions a bride has to make when planning how she would like to look on her wedding day is whether to book a professional make-up artist. Of course, I realise that this service isn’t for everyone, but enlisting a professional make -up artist on your wedding day is money very well spent. If any of the following ring true, then booking a professional will definitely be beneficial to you:
• You want to look radiant and flawless on your big day.
• You want your make up to last all day and night.
• You are not experienced or confident in applying make up
• You want to feel relaxed and enjoy being pampered on the morning of your wedding.

Once you have found the make-up artist of your choice, book them! As with most wedding specialists, quality make-up artists get booked up further in advance than you may realise. Expect to pay a deposit within a certain time frame and sign and return any required contracts.

The trial should begin with an in-depth consultation so that the make-up artist can determine and take notes on specific details about the wedding along with details about your skin and usual make up habits and preferences. Don’t be afraid to ask questions if you are unsure of anything and communicate to your artist any specific changes that you would like them to make.
You can help both yourself and your artist by preparing a little for your make up trial. Take some time to consider how you would like your make up to look on the day and perhaps collect some images of the make up looks you like. Be realistic about how a particular make up look might look on you especially if it’s something very different to how you generally wear your make up.
Giving your skin some extra tender loving care in the months and weeks leading up to your make up trial and wedding day can vastly improve the look of your skin and in return your make up.
