Salon arrest POLICE arrested a woman after an alleged attack on a man outside a Maidstone hair salon. The man, who is in his 50s, was


taken to a London hospital with cuts on his upper body following the alleged assault in Willington Street between 10.40pm and 11.11pm on Monday, January 16. A woman aged in her 30s was


later arrested on suspicion of as- sault. Police say the person arrested and the victim are known to each other.

Drugs charge ATEENAGER from Maidstone has been given a community service order after being sentenced for as- sault and intent to supply cannabis. Mike Divuilu, from Church


Street, appeared at Mid Kent Mag- istrates’ Court on December 26. In court, he admitted possessing cannabis with intent to supply on October 12 and assaulting a man on July 27. Both incidents took place in Tonbridge. Magistrates ordered Divuilu to


carry out 160 hours of unpaid work over the next 12 months and to pay £85 costs and an £85 victim sur- charge.

Concert tribute to a musical maestro


INSPIRATIONAL Maidstone mu- sician JeffreyVaughan-Martin will be remembered at a one-off concert in the town in the spring. Musicians from across the region


have been queuing up to take part in the tribute to the multi-talented music maestro, who died last year, after a lifetime devoted to the art and many years as leader of the Maid- stone Choral Union and the Maid- stone Singers. The concert, entitled Celebrating


Jeffrey – A Life in Music, will be at Mote Hall, in the centre of town, at 3pm on Sunday, March 19. A collection of 80 players are ex-


pected to form the “JVM All Stars” and more than 100 singers will come together in a JVM Choir, from the groups that have featured in his life. These include Maidstone Youth Music Society (MYMS) and West Malling Community Choir, with performances promised by Paul Beniston, FraserBowles and percus- sionist Evelyn Glennie. Jeffrey was treasurer of the Methodist Church on Union Street – a location used as a venue in the Maidstone Jazz Festival, which he helped to found and promote.
