4 ASIA-PACIFIC NEWS Chinese marinas go for gold Asia’s first female CMM
The Global Marina Institute (GMI) is pleased to announce that Thailand-based Zara Tremlett has been awarded Certified Marina Management (CMM) status. Zara joins the ranks of five other Certified Managers in Asia and over 250 globally. She is, however, the first female to receive this recognition in the region.
T
wo marinas in China have been accredited under the new Global Gold Anchor Scheme as Five Gold
Anchor marinas. They are Yalong Bay Yacht Club in Sanya and the Wuxi Taihu Shanshui Club & Marina to the West of Shanghai, which was previously accredited under the Marina Industries Association’s (MIA) previous Gold Anchor Scheme. Yalong Bay Yacht Club is a modern 150-berth marina within the confines of the luxurious St. Regis Sanya Yalong Bay Resort. Wuxi Taihu Shanshui Club & Marina is a 110-berth exclusive club-style marina located on the freshwater lake at Wuxi.
Andrew Chapman, CMM,
MIA President and Chairman, travelled to both marinas for the presentation ceremonies. He said these presentations are very important, being the first two marinas in China to be accredited under the new Global Gold Anchor accreditation Scheme. “Both Yalong Bay Yacht Club and Wuxi Taihu Shanshui Club & Marina are very suitable first recipients of Global Gold Anchor accreditation in China. With their excellent land and on- water facilities and services, they provide a suitably high benchmark for other marinas in China to aspire to.”
During his visit to Yalong Bay Yacht Club, Mr Chapman was told

that it was an honour to be the first marina in China to receive Five Gold Anchors under the new Global Gold Anchor scheme as the Club always insists on the concept of putting service to members first and to holding more sailing events for them. Roger Lei, General Manager of
Wuxi Taihu Shanshui Club & Marina, said: “Thank you to our ex-Vice General Manager Wayne Pan and our whole staff’s efforts. We will take this honour as a new start and work harder and harder to supply high quality service to our members and yacht owners”.
Zara Tremlett, CMM, Marina Manager of Yacht Haven Marina, Phuket, Thailand.
Zara is the Marina Manager
at Yacht Haven Marina. She has managed the 320-berth marina on the North-East coast of Phuket since 2002. Prior to this, she had a development and management role at Harbour Village Marina, Bonaire, in the Caribbean. She is also Secretary of the Thai Marine Business Association and an advocate of environmental, educational and safety concerns. Incoming GMI Chairman
John Hogan, CMP, said he is very pleased the industry has another CMM in Asia. He explained, “As Asia continues to strengthen its boating infrastructure, the corresponding development of skilled and experienced marina managers is very important. Zara has demonstrated excellent industry leadership in the region. Her CMM status will further assist the growth of the marine and marina industries across the region and encourage other women in the industry globally to confidently advance their professional development”.
