9 EDITOR’S COMMENT O

rganised by RAI Amsterdam is association with the International Council of Marine Industry Associations (ICOMIA), the METSTRADE exhibition is the world’s

largest trade event for manufacturers and suppliers of equipment, materials and systems for the marine leisure industry. I first attended what was then called the Marine Equipment Trade Show in 1993 and have witnessed the event expanding into more halls at the exhibition centre and introducing a dedicated Marina & Yard Pavilion for our industry. Another noticeable change is the demographics of

the show, which was mainly European with a number of American exhibitors and visitors a quarter-century ago. The latest event was far more international, with China and the nations of South-East Asia and the Pacific present in far greater numbers than previous events. Although half a world away, it would benefit our

readers to keep in touch with METSTRADE, which has officially launched its new Online Community as a year- round addition to the annual exhibition. This has been designed to allow companies and other stakeholders to connect and share useful content related to the latest

industry developments in the same way as they do at the show in Amsterdam. The new resource will also serve as an invaluable tool for preparing for business and networking at the exhibition and following up on the contacts made there. The new METSTRADE Online Community will permit members to network together and stay up to speed with the latest maritime industry developments and innovations all year round. They can share ideas, insights and successful initiatives with peers while learning from colleagues from around the world. By connecting with like-minded professionals,

participants will learn more about the challenges and opportunities facing marinas and can share their own insights on relevant topics. The online community will provide a new way to work together in order to solve common problems and improve performance across the industry. To join or log in is very easy and members can search

for and contact each other by accessing the website www.metstrade.com and clicking on ‘Community’.
