Maidstone’s Museum is no longer in the dinosaur ages!
Maidstone Museum has unveiled its new website which is already improving not only the visitor experience, but the work of the wider team too. For those of you that haven’t had the pleasure of using this fresh and modern website you can expect great things including: Simpler navigation Clear and clean design Lots of high quality pictures Modern, clean design A highly responsive site with the ability for users to access it using mobile devices including tablets
What can you do that you couldn’t before?
Paying for an event or children’s party? Now you can complete this online! Not only can visitors create an account and pay securely using Paypal, the team can also track the booking, monitor sales and attendees all from within the website!
Victoria Barlow, Museums Director, said: “We’re delighted with the new website. As well as looking great, it will allow our customers to do lots of things online like booking tickets for our events, showing an interest in what’s coming up or planning a birthday party.
“It should make things quicker and simpler for everyone. I particularly hope people will check out our regular blog on the page to find out what’s been going on behind the scenes and let us know what they think.“
COMING HOME: Conflict & Care in 1916

The winter exhibition at Maidstone Museum provides a compelling and emotional look at the lives of those in Maidstone during the Great War. Inspired by the work of artist Frank Hyde – in particular the paintings ‘Trones Wood’ and ‘Wounded Soldiers Arriving at Maidstone East’ – the exhibition, sponsored by Southeastern, provides a compelling and emotional insight into the lives of those in Maidstone during the First World War.
Entrance to the exhibition is FREE HLF funding and mummy scanning

Museum Lates Last Thursday of every month
Museum open until 9pm Lates activities start from 6pm
Museum Lates showcase, art, film dance, history and more with a different theme each month for you to enjoy.
Our curators share a special insight into the theme’s collections and people are able to choose from a range of activities.
the Maidstone Museums’ Foundation, the Egyptology Department at the British Museum, the Petrie Museum at University College London, and the Egypt Exploration Society to research and uncover the stories behind the objects, the redisplay will be unveiled in Summer 2017 with a fantastic new space in which to discover the artefacts.
In addition to reworking the Ancient
Civilisations gallery, Maidstone Museum’s very own 2,700-year-old mummy, Ta-Kush, underwent a full body scan at the Kent Institute of Medicine and Surgery (KIMS).
The results of the scan will subsequently be interpreted by experts to enable us to learn more about the history of one of the museum’s most popular artefacts.
Fright Night:

sometimes disturbing objects in our collections
The tour — which is limited to just 25 people — begins at 18:30, but numbers are limited, so please sign up in advance for FREE or upon arrival.

Then, at 19:45, watch the Anaconda dance troupe in a chilling and creepy performance. Not for the faint-hearted. There is no need to register on the free tour in order to enjoy the performance of the dance troupe; simply walk-in on the day and enjoy the show!
