Tip: If your tiredness is truly overwhelming, speak to your GP. A non-constipating iron supplement may work wonders.


Week 8


Baby: Baby will have developed that classic curled shape similar to a prawn and will will start to make its first tiny movements.


You: You may find that you need to wee more oſten because your bladder is being crowded by the uterus.


Tip: If you're bloating and blowing wind, try lightly steamed veg since these are easier to absorb than hard ones.


Week 9


Baby: Baby's limbs will be lengthening and elbows and knees will be appearing!


You: Your breasts will be feeling full and tender and your centre of gravity starts to change.


Tip: Start thinking about the type of birth you'd like: home or hospital? Consultant or midwife-led? Water birth or prostate in a bed? It's your choice (health permitting).


Week 10


Baby: Now referred to as a fetus, baby's head and neck are now extended and the ears will have moved to the side of the head.


You: You may need to eat more because your body is doing a lot of work. Eat!


Tip: Pregnancy gingivitis can cause gums to below swollen and inflamed, so visit the dentist.


Week 11


Baby: Baby's sex will now become more apparent. Te heart is completely formed and pumping away. Te placenta is also continuing to get bigger.


You:Hopefully your nausea will have started to subside a little.


Tip:Avoid frequent headaches by sleeping and eating regularly.


Week 12


Baby: Your baby will be fully formed and will simply begin to grow. Its jaw will now be hiding 20 developing tooth buds.


You: You should be due your first scan, which is a fantastic experience. You can also relax in the knowledge that, if you'd been going to miscarry, you would probably have done it by now.


Tip:Make a list beforehand of all the questions you want to ask. Everything will be such a blur that you'll not remember them, so have an aide-mémoire to hand.
