Does Suicide Squad live up to the decade,
over the summer blockbuster. The lists of highest grossing films are majorly made up of the comic book stories that bet big on spectacle. But how long does a certain genre maintain control over the summer box office? And is the cur- rent popular movie genre running out of steam from a lack of originality or per- ceivable difference in these intertwined superhero franchises?

Just moments before seeing Sui- cide Squad, the majority of people would probably tell you that it was their most anticipated movie of the summer. The promising trailers, all-star cast, and its quick integration into pop culture as a result of our internet-fueled society were the major factors in the super-villain en- semble film's escalating hype. ics film about super-villains-turned- heroes, has quite a lot of things going for it. As highlighted by its impressive marketing campaign, the main attrac- tion for this film is its cast of charac- ters. Namely Margot Robbie as Har- ley Quinn, Will Smith as Deadshot, and Jay Hernandez as El Diablo are the ones to watch. They are the ac- tors playing the villains that make Suicide Squad the most enjoyable to sit through, providing colorful multi- layered characters that never cease to entertain.
In addition to the key characters,
another factor the film has in its favor is its colorful editing which, in addi- tion with its soundtrack and cinema- tography, create a dark cartoony style reminiscent of a hallucinogenic trip. The film looks good and it knows it, as it flaunts its grimly cartoonish flair throughout its 130-minute running time.
If your brain was in fact checked
at the door, the film can be an enjoy- able feast for the eyes with cool char- acters and some fun sequences, but its strong points don't excuse its weak ones. Suicide Squad is a movie laden with plot holes, unbalanced ideas, sub-par pacing and perceivably seems to have contracted a bad case of studio DC COMICS PAGE14
