General Dynamics awarded CVN maintenance contract

General Dynamics NASSCO–Norfolk was awarded the Mid-Atlantic

CVN private sector maintenance contract by the U.S. Navy to perform non- nuclear planning and maintenance work during six Chief of Naval Operations (CNO) availabilities on four Nimitz-class aircraft carriers and one Gerald R. Ford-class carrier, home-ported in or visiting Norfolk, Virginia. The five-year cost-plus-award-fee and incentive fee contract also includes the ability to provide for any continuing or emergent maintenance repairs on any of these East Coast aircraft carriers. In addition, NASSCO–Norfolk was awarded a $23 million cost-plus-

award-fee modification for the USS Harry S. Truman (CVN-75) fiscal 2016 Planned Incremental Availability, as part of an add-on to a previously awarded contract. Under this contract, the company will provide ship-repair services such as the planning and execution of depot-level maintenance, alterations and modifications that will update and improve the ship's military and technical capabilities. Work will be performed at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Portsmouth, Virginia, and is expected to be completed by May 2017.

Police partner with private social network site

Just in time for National Night Out, the City of Suffolk and Suffolk Police

Department announced today a partnership with Nextdoor (www.nextdoor. com), the private social network for neighborhoods, to improve citywide and neighbor-to-neighbor communications as well as build stronger, safer communities with the help of residents. This integration with Nextdoor will enable the City of Suffolk and the Suffolk Police Department to use Nextdoor to communicate online with neighborhoods who are part of the Nextdoor network to increase safety and strengthen a virtual neighborhood watch.

Nextdoor has already proven to be an essential and well-adopted tool for Suffolk residents. Over 50 neighborhoods at present have started Nextdoor

websites. The City is encouraging more residents to take advantage of Nextdoor, where they can ask questions, get to know one another, and exchange local advice and recommendations.

“Today, we are excited to officially partner with Nextdoor, especially since

they are a national sponsor of National Night Out, which we’re celebrating across our entire City this evening,” said Diana Klink, City Spokesperson. “Nextdoor will provide residents with more avenues to easily and effectively connect with City Departments, and each other, about the things that matter most to their communities.”

“This partnership with Nextdoor gives neighbors an easy way to not only

get to know each other, but develop stronger relationships with the Suffolk Police Department, “said Chief Thomas Bennett. “We believe that building trust and constant communication channels will lead to stronger and safer neighborhoods.”

With Nextdoor, Suffolk residents can join private neighborhood websites

to share information, including neighborhood public safety issues, community events and activities, local services, and even lost pets. The City will be able to post information, such as important news, services, programs, public events, and emergency notifications to Nextdoor websites within the City.

Nextdoor is free for residents and the City. Each Suffolk neighborhood has its own private Nextdoor neighborhood website, accessible only to residents who verify that they live in the neighborhood. Neighborhoods establish and self-manage their own Nextdoor websites and the City will not be able to access residents’ websites, contact information, or content. Information shared on Nextdoor is password protected and cannot be accessed by search engines.

Those interested in joining their neighborhood’s Nextdoor website can

visit www.nextdoor.com and enter their address. If residents have questions about their Nextdoor website, please visithelp.nextdoor.com.
