September 2016 MAINE COASTAL NEWS Page 19. A Great Season of Lobster Boat Racing Comes to an End
www.mainebuiltboats.org Don’t Let Our Looks Fool You. A dominate boat in Diesel Class J has been Andrew Taylor’s BLUE EYED GIRL.
A great battle between Adam Kimball’s MISS ATTITUDE, Raymond Carter’s WHO’S BUYN, Tony Hooper’s LIBERTY and Troy Plummer’s ODYSSEY.

and E. Like Long Island, WIDE OPEN and WHISKEY GIRL were racing in Class B; BLACK DIAMOND, Class C; and ELIZ- ABETH, Class D, but ELIZABETH was a no show. WIDE OPEN bested WHISKEY GIRL in their class and BLACK DIAMOND won her class. Now came the Diesel Classes and in
Class A we had LYNN MARIE and Scott Dyer’s RELENTLESS [BHM 28; 200-hp Yanmar], which was won by LYNN MA- RIE. O’KATE took the win in Class B. MISS ATTITUDE was fresh off her win at Long Island and she backed it up with another win in Class C. SIMPLE MAN and PULL & PRAY were lined for the start of Class D and when the fl ag dropped SIMPLE MAN took the lead and never looked back. DE- TERMINATION came to the line and won Class E. In Class F MS ROSE took fi rst. HAPPY HOUR was the only boat signed up in Class G. In Class H FIRST TEAM got the win. In Class I MISTY ran against Chip Johnson’s THREE STARS [Mitchell Cove 35; 650-hp Mack]. It was close, but slowly MISTY worked her way into the lead for the win. In Class J it was BLUE EYED GIRL. In Class K LA BELLA VITA, LISA MARIE and ALL OUT were on the line. Would LISA MARIE be able to best LA BELLA VITA, well not this time as they fi nished one two. In Class L MISS KARLEE and WILD WILD WEST and since there was no one else in Class N WHISTLIN’ DIXIE would race with them. First over the line was WILD WILD WEST. OLD SCHOOL was the only entrant in
Class M(A) so she ran down with the fi ve boats in Class M(B). The winner of Class M(B) was Adam Libby’s RISING TIDE [Young Brothers 40; 750-hp John Deere]. In the fi rst Wooden Boat Race WIDE
OPEN took the win. In the second Wooden Boat Race, SAND DOLLAR III got the win. There was only one racer in the Novi
Class, Willie Lucy’s KALEY ANN. The top boat in the Gasoline Free-for-
All was WIDE OPEN. Next was the Diesel Free-for-All and all expected WILD WILD WEST to be the

winner. As they racers came up the course it was close, but it was obvious that WILD WILD WEST was back and WHISTLIN’ DIXIE got the win. Just WHISTLIN’ DIXIE and WILD
WILD WEST came to the line for a re- match in the Fastest Lobster Boat race. WILD WILD WEST was out in front by a boat length aat the fi nish line. WHISTLIN’ DIXIE certainly turned heads with her new- found speed. A special thanks to Jed Spear, owner of
the MISTY DAWN for being the committee boat on short notice. Next up is the annual meeting and
awards banquet at Robinson’s Wharf on Southport Island in October. There is no question this has been a banner year for racing. The diesel speed record was broken and in many classes there was some real close racing. There is always room for improvement
so if anyone has any suggestions I want to hear from you.
Behind this charming seaport village exterior lies the capability of a state-of-the art yacht yard and the facility of a modern marina. It’s this meeting of atmosphere and efficiency that makes Derecktor Robinhood stand apart from others. In Maine or anywhere else you look.
