At Wilbur Yachts they are fi nishing a 45 hull as a sportfi sherman.


At Front Street Shipyard in Belfast they have fi nished and re-launched the yacht ELSE.

P. E. Luke in East Boothbay has been


extremely busy this spring and summer with regular type of work when recently other years have not been busy. What is surprising is that it the work is still coming in. One of the major jobs this spring was on


a Hinckley 49, which had some mechanical upgrades done as well as rebuilding her centerboard. The Hinckley 49 was also painted with


a new kind of Awlgrip. This was followed by painting a Boston Whaler 22 with the same paint.


Farrin’s Boat Shop in Walpole is pro-


gressing well on their 42 foot gill netter for a New York fi shermen, which is being fi nished out on a Calvin Beal 42 hull. She is powered with a C-18 803 hp Caterpillar. Down below she will have a storage, hydraulic and elec- trical lockers. Presently they were putting in the windows and fi nishing up the systems. The exhaust system, stern roller and custom


hardware was built by Alex Martin of Blue Fab in Warren. This boat should be launched the end of August early September. The big project, the Lowell 43, which


is being fi nished out as a pleasure boat for a local customer is progressing well too. Presently they are working on her interior and building her fl ybridge. She is powered with a 1200 hp MAN. This boat will be going over in the spring. Next they will fi nish off another Calvin


Beal 42 as a sport fi shermen for a customer from Long Island, New York. They will also be refurbishing a Young


Brothers 40 for the same customer of the brand-new 42 foot gill netter. She will also be repowered. This project will not be com- pleted until next spring.

be going over shortly. A 23 foot Lyman will be coming in for


frames and keel repairs. It was also noted that her garboards will need work. A 37 foot powerboat had her galley


removed and a locker added. They also re- placed tankage, redid aft cockpit and adding to hatches. They then did some cosmetic work to the entire boat before launching.


Wayne Beal Boat Shop in Jonesport is extremely busy like many builders of the lobster boat hull. Presently in the shop is a Wayne Beal


42, which is being fi nished out for a fi sher- man from Sunshine in Stonington. She is powered with an 800 hp Caterpillar, and her interior consist of a V-berth, hydraulic and electrical room, three tanks for lobsters, and to fuel tanks. She will be launched sometime this fall. A Wayne Beal 46 it is being laid up for a fi sherman from Beals Island. Presently they


are working on her top. She will be powered with a 815-hp French diesel engine. The hull and top will be shipped out to a fi nisher from Addison who will fi nish the project. Next will be another Wayne Beal 42,


which is being fi nished out as a lobster boat for a customer from Beals island. She will be powered with a 815 hp French diesel engine. A Wayne Beal 46 will be laid up, hull


and top, with a 900 hp Scania engine, will be going to a Friendship fi shermen to be fi n- ished. This customer has two other brothers who are also getting Wayne Beal 46s.


In Marblehead, C. W. Hood has had an extremely busy winter and spring. One of the main projects last winter was


changing a Katama 30 powerboat’s soft top to a hard top with removable windows for a customer from the Kennebec River. The Katama 30 is a model off ered by Hood and is described as an ultimate modern classic and is powered with either Volvo Duoprop diesel drive system or a jet drive. Another major project was on a 32 foot


sailboat. They upgraded her wiring, plumb- ing, and added new hardware. They also launched two Hood 32 foot

work, like most yards along the New En- gland coast. This year has been extremely busy for the marine industry. Another very busy aspect of the busi-


ness is design work. Currently they are designing a 42 foot, a 50 foot and a 60 foot sailboat, a 25 foot electric runabout a 29 foot Wasque. One design that has already been started is a 12½ foot Junior Trainer, which they have begun building a prototype for.
