Discount store expands as Mall is renovated
POPULAR discount retailer Poundland is set to expand its store in The Mall in Maidstone after a complete refit as a £5m ren- ovation of the centre reaches com- pletion. The Works, which was devas-
tated by fire at its premises inWeek Street premises last year, will also move to the shopping complex. The new store will be next to the H.Sa
muel jewellers on the upper level, in a unit formerly occupied by Samantha’s. Poundland is taking on a unit
next door, meaning the present ten- ant, M&J Luggage, will move to a vacant space adjacent to it. It is hoped that retailer, T J Hughes, will be nearing completion of its new store at The Mall by the time the centre’s works are due to finish at the end of September. Former BHS workers, some of
whom had been with the chain for decades, landed jobs at the store in the same week they were made re- dundant.
