SHINERS THIS MONTH’S BAND

WHO? Jamie Delaney – Vocals, Guitar Lenny Rout – Drums Rory O’Connor –Bass John O’Malley – Vox, Continental Organ

WHO? Lost in the mist of Myspace circa 2009 is a band who headlined packed gigs and commanded the teen audience of Norwich: Monroes. Ten they became the band with the slickest of haunting pop songs, crashing guitars, clean cut vocals and stylish videos: Blighters. Now Shiners. Lenny has been with Jamie since the very beginning and Rory and John were two musicians they met in London. Finding the right people to get the right sound took time. Studio recordings have given them a great product in terms of singles to get the band heard – but it’s live where they fully come to life. Two years old but a decade in the making they are finally being discovered and given their biggest platform to date, playing the BBC Introducing stage at T in the Park.

WHAT? “I never stopped making music,” Jamie told us and we can tell that by listening to the new material. Simple, delicious pop, catchy, clever, delivered with attitude and belief. “It’s what I’ve always done. It may be corny but I sold my soul to Rock and Roll

many years ago. I knew I could never work in an office, but it takes perseverance. I know I’m good at writing songs, but there’s always more to learn.” Te influences that haunt Jamie are those from the punk and post punk era. “I love Te Stranglers and Elvis Costello. I may not listen to them now but they are my core.”

THE FUTURE? “We have a lot of tracks recorded waiting to be mixed,” said

Jamie. We have a new video on the way and the plan is for an EP later in the year. We’d love to do more shows and tour of course. T in the Park is massive for us, it’s great exposure.”

Every era needs a band that can make fresh new music that is instantly familiar. Jamie has the track record of doing just that and is just waiting for the wheel to turn full in his direction and take to its heart his classy crafted pop.
