Fourth Annual OLLI Yoga Festival
O
ne Love Long Island (OLLI) will host its fourth annual Yoga Festival on Saturday, September 24, from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Sands Point Preserve, in Port Washington. All proceeds will go toward organizations that support survivors of human trafficking. The festival will feature open level
vinyasa practice, family practices and 108 sun salutations. In addition, the day will offer live music, trance dance, sound healing, henna
artists, face painting, drum circles and hooping performances. Nadine Wolff, cofounder of OLLI, wants people to know that this isn’t just
any yoga festival. “Our event is quite unique in that it is orchestrated completely by the volunteers of 20 carefully selected Long Island yoga studios,” she explains. “One hundred percent of the profits are donated to the organizations that we are supporting. Together, we practice with a purpose to support and raise awareness for oppressed women and children around the world.” The goal of Yoga Festival is to raise awareness and funds to generate the stop of sex and human trafficking domestically and abroad, and to continue the empowerment of humans everywhere. Funds will be distributed among Puresa Humanitarian, GEMS and Off the Mat, Into the World. This event is a step toward helping put an end to the $32 billion illegal industry that is affecting more than 30 million women and children not only nationally but worldwide. Tickets are available for purchase on Eventbrite or at any of the participating
yoga studios. General admission tickets are $72, $66 (senior citizens), $62 (yoga instructors) and $50 (full-time students). All tickets include an OLLI class pass and one free class at every participating studio (prior to event date). Each ticket holder will also be automatically entered to win an all-expenses-paid yoga retreat for two to Yemaya Resort in Little Corn Island, Nicaragua, in collaboration with Satya Retreats.

Recent Passing of Natural Awakenings Long Island “Family” Member
I
t is with immense sadness that Natural Awakenings Long Island (NALI) shares with readers the news that prominent holistic dentist Dr. Alex Shvartsman, of the Long Island Center for Healthier Dentistry, passed away suddenly last month. NALI readers know that he was a wealth of information when it came to holistic dentistry and holistic living and could be counted on each month to provide an informative and enlightening article on a relevant topic. Dr. Shvartsman’s mission to provide “Healthier Dentistry” will live on and the practice will continue to see patients. Dr. Shvartsman will be sorely missed.

T

For 14 years, this wellness- focused, educational and experiential event has attracted more than 100 exhibitors to locations throughout the tri-state area, growing from 42 visitors at the first fair in 2002 to hundreds in recent years. Over the years, the fair has expanded from one annual event to multiple events in NYC, Tarrytown and Brooklyn, New York, and Fort Lee, New Jersey. But founder Paula Cara- cappa says the goal remains constant: to educate the public about the variety of wellness services and products that are available today. Vendors and practitioners will represent a broad range of products and services, from essential oils and ayurvedic medicine to nutritional supplements, organic cleaning prod- ucts, and healing crystals and jewelry. Intuitive readers and holistic healers will offer insight (for entertainment purposes only) through tarot reading, mediumship, angel reading, numerol- ogy and pet readings; and visitors can “sample” healing practices, such as reiki, reflexology and energy healing. Discounted appointments with readers and healers can be made at PPCGroup.
