Multi-tree accumulator for harvesting heads
Mapping drone for forests
A
new multi-tree accumu- lator is now available for a number of Komatsu harvesting heads. It
offers greater effi ciency, quieter operation and improved reliability. A useful addition to increased productivity, a multi-tree accumulator also offers the advantage of increased fl exibility. Quite simply, the head can be used for more types of harvesting. Komatsu’s new multi-tree
accumulator is larger and therefore much more effective. This means that it can handle 25% more from tip to tip. It has a cast design and a protected valve, which increases durability, and the new damping plates make multi-tree accumulation quieter as well. It is available as an option for the Komatsu C93, the Komatsu C123 and the Komatsu C144 heads. More information from

The dual challenge for forest managers and consultants working in the forest industry is to maintain the health of the trees and also facilitate their commercial exploitation in a socially acceptable manner. The Nomad Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) produced by Novadrone SL can carry out a number of tasks. These include: • Improve forest management and operational planning.
• Assess tree inventories for valuation and taxation purposes.
• Monitor illegal activities and encroachment, such as logging.
• Carry out research into forest health, enabling targeted action.
• Respond quickly to
environmental impacts, such as storm damage. Nomad is robust and efficient with an ultra-light airframe made from advanced Kevlar and carbon fibre composites. It weighs just 2.4 kg with a wingspan of 3 m. The drone is easy to land (no catapult required) and user-friendly. The operator simply creates a flight plan and uploads it to the autopilot, reviews the checklist, launches Nomad and waits until it has captured the images required and returned to base. A rugged transport case designed by Novadrone is available to carry the UAV. More information from
