7TH ANNUAL HARVEY MILK

RE-IMAGINE NORMAL STREET Fabulous Hillcrest is r

redefining “normal.” Shat-

tering stereotypes is something we should all be familiar with, so breaking from tradition in the Hillcrest neighborhood should be something we all embrace. Normal Street has always been one of the centers for the LGBT community (we all love the irony of the name) and Fabulous Hillcrest is looking to build on that legacy, transforming Normal Street into a car-free public space, opening it up to pedestrians and cyclists. Come spend four days, filled with free family fun from Thursday, May 12 through Sunday, May 15, ending with the Hillcrest Farmers Market. Thursday begins with Pechakucha Night, during which planners and creatives will share their ideas in 20 images for 20 seconds each. Friday evening offers a “bike in” movie event featuring Steven Spielberg blockbuster classic, E.T. On Saturday, Hillcrest Brewing Company presents their Hillcrest Craft Beer Crawl followed by free outdoor concerts on Normal Street, sponsored by The Merrow. Sunday signals a return to “normal” order, with the weekly and oh-so-fabulous, Hillcrest Farmers Market. For more information, click “events” at fabuloushillcrest.com.

DIVERSITY BREAKFAST Come celebrate another year filled with excellent achievements within the LGBT community—happenings that most certainly would make the event’s namesake, Harvey Milk, proud. While you partake in a wonderful breakfast, honor the great work being done locally and learn about this year’s recipients of the Harvey Milk Leadership Award, Equality Award, Youth Essay Award and the Harvey Milk Lifetime Achievement Award. 2016 honorees include Houston’s first openly gay mayor Annise Parker and Michael Connolly, one of Alberta, Canada’s first LGBT legislators.
