Seapoint masterclass in cosmetic dentistry


International speakers share expertise at monthly lecture


One of the world’s leading experts in cosmetic dentistry spent a week in a Dublin clinic lecturing, teaching and mentoring his Irish colleagues recently. Professor Victor Clavijo,


of the University of Southern California, was the latest speaker in the Seapoint Clinic’s ongoing monthly lecture series. Prof Clavijo has a masters in


implant dentistry, a masters and PhD in restorative dentistry, is professor for the Implante- Perio Institute of Sao Paulo, and a visiting professor at the Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry of USC in Los Angeles. He has more than 40 published articles and book


chapters in Portuguese, English and Spanish. As well as lecturing on


“Everything you need to know about Teeth and Implants” at the Blackrock clinic’s lecture series, Prof Clavijo worked with Seapoint Clinic staff during the course of the week sharing his advice and expertise. Leonardo Bocabella, dental


technician, accompanied Prof Clavijo on his visit to showcase advancements in ceramics and cosmetics to the clinic’s staff. He owns a laboratory in Sao Paulo, and travels internationally for collaborations, lecturing and teaching. He is co-author of


the book Quintessence of Dental Technology and Perio- Implantodontia Estética (Quintessence 20ı4). Prof Clavijo was joined at


the podium on the lecture evening by Dr David Bell, of the Seapoint Clinic. Ian Nyquist, of the Seapoint


Clinic, said: “Dr Bell’s lecture on the Management of Dental Implant Complications was a fascinating insight into a modern dental implant general practice book. “We were delighted to


welcome some local colleagues too and even had the lecture webcast to international participants from Denmark to Brazil.”


ASM agenda


The Dental Faculty at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland has announced that the American Academy of Paediatric Dentistry will be joining its 20ı6 Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM). The meeting, on 28 and 29


October in Dublin, will see a mixture of international and local speakers with the topic “Small beginnings, big outcomes”. Dr Jeffrey Dean, a


professor of pediatric dentistry and orthodontics at the Indiana University School of Dentistry, will give the prestigious Sheridan Lecture on the topic of “Continued competency in dentistry”. For more information
