Bryony runs up £2,000

NINE-year-old Bryony Dhanescha from Loose has been running to school every day to raise money for Macmillian Cancer Support. But her efforts didn’t end there,

after she bet her brother she could run 100 miles in a month – the equivalent of four marathons. Bryony is now hoping to raise

£2,500 for the charity, after her grandmother was diagnosed with breast cancer. Mum Karen said: “My daughter

is full of schemes andwacky ideas. Before this, she was making origami and selling it to her friends. “I didn’t think she would last a

week running but I agreed that if she had run a decent amount in the firstweek I would set up a Just Giv- ing page for her. It snowballed from there.” Bryony, a member of a triathlon

club, ran to and from school every day as well as a daily three-mile run around Loose with her mum and dad. She finished her challenge at Ley- bourne Lakes with a 2.2-mile run with her friends from the Ocean

Lake Tri Club, celebrating with some well-deserved sweets and cakes afterwards. Bryony said: “I'm so proud of myself. My family didn't think I would complete my challenge but I've proved everyone wrong. I have raised over £2,000 which I never thought I could. This just proves that if you think you can, you can.” You can still give to Bryony’s Just Giving

News Church centre is sold off

FIERCE bidding has seen the sale at auction of the church-owned St Luke’s Centre in Maidstone for £342,000. The sale, according to Rev Chris Key (pictured), follows much soul-search-

ing to reach a final decision about the fate of the Foley Street building. Parishioners and volunteers had worked to restore

the centre, bought by the church about four years ago, with the hope of it being used by the commu- nity. Rev Key said both he and the PCC had listened to

the views of those with an interest in the site, thought to date from the 1800s. He said: “The decision to sell will have raised a va-

riety of feelings among us, including considerable disappointment for some.” But he remained con- vinced that the right decision had been reached. The reserve sale price – to ensure the outstanding mortgage and costs

relating to the building could be covered – was exceeded. He added: “We in the PCC are already considering the vision for all our

other buildings on the church site, to ensure that God’s mission is sup- ported and increased by improving our facilities there, sowe have exciting times ahead together.” Auctioneer John Stockey, fromClive Emson Auctioneers, was unable to reveal the identity of the purchaser.
