Quesada Bowls Club report Sponsored by

After the Christmas break, our players are gradually returning back from the U.K. and other far flung places ready to start the second half of our Winter League programme, which commenced for our Winter League Squad on 6th January where we had an impressive win over the league leaders San Luis.

Those players who stayed in Spain for the festive season took to the green at Quesada on 29th and 30th December for the inaugural Chrisyear Open Aussie Pairs tournament, very well run by our Competition Secretary, Suzi Cooper, and very well supported by many of our friends from other clubs. The eventual winners were the Quesada pairing of Violet Campbell and Fred Roberts, who met another Quesada pair Mel and Colin Highland in a highly contested final. The photograph shows the winning pair.

During December, several of our international players were away in Cyprus representing Spain in the Atlantic Championships, a qualifying event for the World Championships in New Zealand in 2016. It is great news to report that our players excelled themselves in qualifying, with players from other clubs, for the following events:

Pete Bonsor - Men’s singles, Pete just missing out on a final place. Bill Pain and Pete Bonsor - Men’s Pairs Bill Pain - Men’s Triples Peta Rhodes - Ladies Pairs

Lisa Bonsor & Jacqui Johnston - Ladies Triples Saturday 5th December saw our club members get together at The

Club for a Christmas Dinner and Dance, where we enjoyed an excellent Christmas Dinner followed by dancing into the small hours to DJ Richie Sparks.

At the beginning of this month we said goodbye to Pete and Lisa Bonsor who are returning to

Australia, where they

previously spent a few years. Pete is returning to take up a position which he previously held managing all

the bowls

activities for a very large club just north of Sydney. However, all is not lost to Spain, as both of them will be travelling to New Zealand at the end of 2016 to meet up with their Spanish colleagues for the World Championships.

Our Saturday morning ‘Chicken Drive’ is open to visitors. Players wishing to take part should report at 9.45am for a 10am start.

The Bowls Club has an active social programme and visitors are welcome.
