SERVE NOW Opportunities to share
your gifts of time, talent, and treasure
First Presbyterian Church members and friends are living God’s love in all kinds of ways. One of them is Lauren Daniel, who has been a leader in a variety of educational and worship ministries. Here’s her story, in her own words.
Te first interaction I had with the church was in the audience for the show Te Odd Couple, which my husband, Craig, was in. He introduced me to Judy Fisher, who invited me to sit with her in church, and I just kept coming to church every Sunday morning.
I started acting in the theater group and then started to handle the dinners and tickets.
I began volunteering in the nursery and eventually taught kindergarten Sunday School until my daughter, Brittney, was born, when I moved to the 4-year-old class, where I have been teaching ever since. Tere is nothing more satisfying than the joy and wonder of the little ones as you teach them that there is a God who loves them and wants each of them to be loving and kind to others.
In 1992 I was asked to run a full program for the nursery during Youth Club on Tuesday nights. We did crafts, had Bible lessons, sang songs, and played games every week.
In 1995 I was asked to be part of a committee that created the tableau for Christmas Eve. Tis has been a wonderful tradition that many have looked forward to not only attending but also participating in.
I’ve also sung in Cantate Domino and helped serve the dinners for the Youth, both for many years. I have participated in so many activities because this church is home to me. I can help teach the little ones about God and His love for all of us and share the most beautiful story ever, the birth of Jesus, with many people. When children tell their mother that “Jesus is in their heart” or when even one person is moved by the Christmas Eve service, maybe my love for God has been passed on to someone.
“Proclaim the message; be persistent…convince, rebuke, and encourage, with the
utmost patience in teaching.” —2 TIMOTHY 4:2
