Edith concert THE heroic efforts of wartime nurse Edith Cavellwere honoured at the annual Concert of Remem- brance by Maidstone Wind Sym- phony. A plaque commemorating the nurse’s work on the frontline of Maidstone’s typhoid epidemic was on display for concert-goers as the borough marked the cente- nary of her death at the hands of German soldiers in 1915. This year’s concert, entitled “A
Little Prayer”, raised money for the Poppy Appeal. The pro- gramme featured both poignant and uplifting pieces. Maidstone Young Musician of
the Year George Harrington per- formed Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Tuba Concerto in F Minor, while Lucy Crooks andWill Scott played A Little Prayer, Evelyn Glennie’s solo piece for marimba and electric guitar. A Little Prayer was the second concert in a season of musical sto- rytelling by MaidstoneWind Sym- phony, the reigning national wind band champions, conducted by Jonathan Crowhurst.

Tuesday 1st December Carols by Candlelight at 8pm. A thought-provoking evening of worship led by our Songster Brigade (choir), reflecting on the birth of Jesus. Refreshments will be provided after this event.
Friday 11th December Community Carol Concert at 7.30pm. A celebration of the joy of Christmas with with Kent Police Male Voice Choir and Southborough Junior School drama group, plus our own Salvation Army Band. Tickets need to be bought for this service as we are raising money to support the local charity ‘More than words’ who work hard to raise funds to assist disabled children and their families. Tickets will cost £5 (under 15's free).
Sunday 13th December Gift Service with a Children’s nativity from 10.15am. This lively family service will focus on the gift of Christmas. As part of our worship we invite you to bring new, unwrapped toys to be given out to Maidstone children whose families are struggling financially, as part of The Salvation Army Christmas Appeal. Children are invited to come to this service dressed as a shepherd, Wise Man, Inn keeper, Angel or an animal from the Christmas story.
Sunday 20th December Family Carol Service at 6pm. This family Carol Service will be an opportunity to celebrate the good news of Jesus’ birth with all the musical sections of our Corps.
Friday 25th December Christmas Day Praise at 10.15am. A Christmas day celebration suitable for all the family.
