The Secret History of British Gardens BBC2, dates and times to be confirmed
IN a new four-part series coming soon to BBC Two, Gardeners’ World star Monty Don will traverse 400 years of Britain’s gardening history, taking in the influence of politics, war, religion, archaeology, medicine and Britain’s evolving tastes in food, design, sculpture and fashion. The Secret History Of The British Garden begins with the sole surviving garden of the 1600s – the world-famous Levens Hall in the Lake District – before passing through the landscape-changing influence of Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown, the introduction of exotic species in the 19th century and concluding with the profound effect of two world wars on the modern garden.
Monty said: “My journey through British garden history has been filled with insights into our life that stretches into every corner of human behaviour.”
