uilt for the Sandeman family of port and sherry fame in the late 1800s, this was their home through the First and Second World Wars. During the First World War the house was used as a Red Cross hospital – a plaque by the fireplace in the quiet room reflects this. In the Second World War, the house was occupied by school children who were sent from Glasgow to get away from the bombing. The house was sold to Scottish Hydro in 1946 when Scottish Hydro planned the Pitlochry dam and fish ladder. The present owners purchased the castle in 2002 and converted it into a hotel over the next few years. The Fonab Castle Hotel & Spa was opened on 10 July 2013 and has 34 bedrooms. All are beautifully decorated and are
fitted with the latest in comfort. Some rooms in the castle have wonderful loch views!
