from horses, so this was a kind of crazy idea.” With family in south Florida, it made sense for Daniel to relocate and since Colombia is only a short flight away, he is able to balance the two locations. Daniel feels that his current string has some of the best horses he has had in his professional career. Along with his top Grand Prix mounts, he has a string of young horses he is bringing along. With his attention turned to the

Pan-American games—and to qualify for the Olympics— Daniel is an example of a rider putting the right pieces in place and succeeding in his chosen sport. “Colombia has a very strong team. Daniel Blumen from Colombia is a familiar rider on the interna- tional show jumping circuit based out of Wellington, Florida, and Long Island, New York. He rode Conconcreto Sancha LS, a 12-year- old La Silla (Mexican Sport Horse) mare by Chin Chin, in the 2015 Pan American Games to an 11th place finish.

It will be interesting to watch South and Central American riders develop in the upcoming months and years as teams come together for the next Olympic Games. And, with the 2016 Olympics being held in Brazil, it provides the perfect venue—perhaps the ultimate proving ground—to showcase these riders and their horses.
