Class M(B) (40 feet and over, 501 to 750 hp) there were 15 entrants so they were divided into two heats with the top three going onto the fi nals. In the fi nals it was a close race all the way to the fi nish with CAPTAIN COLE getting fi rst. For the fi nal diesel class race, Class N (40 feet and over, 751 hp and over), Patrick Phinney’s FRAID KNOT [Calvin 46, 1150-hp C18 Caterpillar] took the win. In the Gasoline Free-for-All, the win went to LITTLE GIRLS. Diesel Free-for-All was supposed to be next, but after a false start they opted to run the Wooden Boat Race (Any hp., up to 35 feet 11 inches), which had the same results as the Gasoline Free-for-All. There were no entrants in the second Wooden Boat race (Any hp., 36 feet and over). On the second
start of the Diesel Free-for-All JENNA MA- RIE took the early lead, but WILD WILD WEST lost her smoke quickly and away she went for the win. In the Fastest Working Lobster Boat
race, LA BELLA VITA quickly took the win. The fi nal race of the day was Fastest Recreational Lobster Boat, and this pitted LITTLE GIRLS against WILD WILD WEST. LITTLE GIRLS got the jump, but WILD WILD WEST's smoke did not clear quickly enough and could not get by. With Winter Harbor done, it was onto Long Island on 15 August and Portland the following day, but there was a twist this year as the Merritt Brackett Lobster Boat Races at Pemaquid were scheduled the same day. The Long Island races are held in the af- ternoon, which allows boats from Downeast to steam down that morning and the local

boats can go out and haul and then race.
First up was the three
Work Boat Classes. In Class A (Skiffs 16 feet and under, Outboards up to 30 hp, operators up to 18 years old), which had just one entrant, Michael and Hazel Johnson’s HA- ZEL B. [Lund 16; 25-hp Suzuki] and she ran down with Class B (Inboard, Outboard or Outdrive, 31 to 90 hp). There were seven boats in Class B, and
the odds on favorite was Marshall Spear’s J-BIRD [Calvin Beal 16; 90-hp Mercury] and when the fl ag dropped he was in the lead and went on for the easy win. In Class C (Inboard, Outboard or Outdrive, 90 hp and over) there was six boats on the line. This was one of the closest races of the day and it was between Larry Dunne’s HOSTILE [22’; 225-hp Mercury] and Sandie Moran’s WILD WOMAN [28’; Twin 200-hp Yama- has], which was won by HOSTILE by a matter of feet.
There was only one entrant for the fi ve Gasoline Classes, BLACK DIAMOND in Class C so he ran the course by himself. In Diesel Class A fi ve boats were on the line with the favorite being Steve Johnson’s LYNN MARIE [Jingle Johnson 28; 230-hp Isuzu] and he did not disappoint. In Class B one could not say that the three competitors streaked up the course, and at the fi nish just a few feet separated the bows of Todd Rich’s HARRY & LARRY [34’ Dragger, 175-hp] and Tim Flynn’s DOTTIE MAE [32’ John Luke; 186-hp Isuzu] at a speed of 12 mph. In Class C there was just one entrant, Adam Kimball’s MISS ATTITUDE [Holland 32; 265-hp John Deere] and she ran up the course by herself. In Class D Craig Stewart’s CARL & CO. [Wayne Beal 36; 320-hp Caterpillar] took the lead, followed by Justin Papkee’s PULL N’ PRAY [Repco 37; 325-hp Caterpillar]. Two boats came to the line for Class E, which was won by Jonathan Norton’s ISLA DAWN [Crowley Beal 33; 375-hp John Deere]. There was just

one entrant MS. ROSE in Class F and one, Zach Donnell’s HAPPY HOUR [Mitchell Cove 35; 500-hp John Deere] in Class G. There were fi ve boats on the line for Class H and it was the fi rst time that FIRST TEAM and TURN THE PAGE would face off this year. When the fl ag dropped TURN THE PAGE jumped right into the lead and went on for an easy win. Last year Chris Peterson’s MOJO INC. [Holland 32; 560-hp FPT] had some impressive wins in Class I, but had been absent so far this year. She was now on the line and would be a real threat to Chris Smith’s MISTY [Crowley Beal 33; 650 hp Scania] and Scott Wood’s WILD ONE [Crowley/Beal 33; 892-GM]. MOJO INC. got the win with MISTY second. In Class J, Andrew Taylor’s BLUE EYED GIRL [Calvin Beal 36, 650-hp Scania] lead Alan Dugas’ DELUSIONAL [38’ John’s Bay Boat, 600-hp Cummins] up the course. In Class K, LA BELLA VITA got the win over Nick Page’s ALL OUT [Calvin Beal 38, 750- hp John Deere]. There was just one entrant in Class L, MISS KARLEE. There were no entrants in Class M(A), but there were six on the line for Class M(B). The top boat in this race was CHELSEY ANN BRIELLA. Another boat that we have not seen so far this year was Andy Johnson’s WHISTLIN’ DIXIE [Holland 40; 1,000-hp Caterpillar], but he was on the line for Class N. He led the way with Tom Clemon’s 4 GIRLS getting second.
In the Wooden Boat Race, up to 35’
11”, it was a battle of the brothers, Alan and Scott Dugas, DELUSIONAL and SAND DOLLARS III [41’Johns Bay Boat; 700- hp Caterpillar], which was won by SAND DOLLARS III. There were no entrants in the upper Wooden Boat class.
The next race was the Johnson Boat
Yard race, which is always an interesting event. This race came down to MISS KAR- LEE and WILD WOMAN and right at the fi nish line the winner was WILD WOMAN. Another interesting race is for the cus- tomers of Royal River Boat Yard, which meant there was about 12 boats on the line. First over the line was DOMINATOR, fol- lowed by PRETENDER and Harold Stew- art’s DONNA ELAINE.
Next up was the Gasoline Free-for-All and there was only one entrant, BLACK DIAMOND.

Now came the Diesel Free-for-All and this could be a good race between MISS KARLEE, MOJO INC. and WHISTLIN’ DIXIE. At the line it was MISS KARLEE by half a boat length over WHISTLIN’ DIXIE. Third went to LA BELLA VITA. With lightning fl ashing closer it was decided to cancel the last race and head in. At Pemaquid sign-ups went slow till
