number of years there has been a problem with those that increase the horsepower of their engines and say that it is still at the engine’s base rating. A suggestion has been made that when dealing with an electronic engine, that we take what that engine’s highest output could be. I am sure that those running a lower horsepower would not be pleased, but what is the alternative in curbing this practice? I am sure that this will be one of the issues addressed at the annual meeting and awards banquet, which will be held at Jeff’s Catering in Brewer on 10 October. Presently there is no indication that there will be a change in any of the rules, with the exception of the above way of classifying electronic diesel engine horsepower, or the classes.

for next year. One is that Wayne Beal is putting a boat together to race in a gasoline class. Not a rumor, Glenn Holland has been working on the RED BARON [Holland 32, 1,100-hp Ford]. She has had her topsides faired and most of her internal structure has been removed. She will be getting a new platform, new washboards, cabin and shelter, and paint. As for the engine they are planning to use the 1,100-hp Ford, but she may need some work since she has been sit- ting for over 15 years. Bruce Engert, owner of THUNDERBOLT [South Shore 30; 496 Chevrolet], has said that almost all the parts are in for the bigger engine, which they are

WINTER HARBOR-LONG ISLAND-PE- MAQUID-PORTLAND – As the season progressed the racing seemed to get better with some real tight battles in several of the classes.

The race committee was giving away three boats, two of which were Carolina Skiffs. This brought a number of racers out, a total of 78, hoping to win one of the grand prizes. Winter Harbor does not race Work Boats, boats under 24 feet long, powered with outboards, inboards or outdrives. So it was right to the Gasoline Classes, which had fi ve boats entered in the fi ve classes. There was no racers in Gasoline Class A (Four and Six Cylinder, 24 feet and over) so up next was Class B (V8, Up to 375 cid, 24 feet and over), which had two entrants: Jeremy Holmes’ JASMINE LEE [30’ Clifford Alley, 350 Chevy] and Wayne Rich’s WIDE OPEN [26’ Robert Rich; 350 Chevrolet]. Since there was just one entrant in Class C (V8, 376 to 525 cid, 24 feet and over), Randy Durkee’s BLACK DIAMOND [Holland 32, 454 Chevrolet], they all raced down the course together. Winning the race was WIDE OPEN, followed by BLACK DIA- MOND. LITTLE GIRLS and FOOLISH PLEASURE were the only racers in their respective classes, Class D (V8, 376 cid and over, 24 feet and over (Non-working racer)) and E (V8, Over 525 cid, 28 feet and over, Turbos/superchargers).
