Free Lecture by Dr. Michael Murray S

Dr. Michael Murray

assafras Health Foods, in White Bear Lake, will host a free lecture by naturopath Dr. Michael Murray, author of more than 30 books. Murray will talk about natural ways to get a good night’s sleep, control blood sugar, improve bone quality, reduce joint pain, and more. The event will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., on September 30, at Kellerman’s Event Center. Murray is the co-author of A Textbook of Natural Medicine, considered the definitive textbook on naturopathic medicine for physicians, as well as the consumer version, The Encyclo- pedia of Natural Medicine. He is widely regarded as one of the world’s leading authorities in the field of natural medicine. On his website, DoctorMurray.com, he advocates diet, vitamins, minerals, herbs and other natural measures in the maintenance

of health and the treatment of disease. “One of the great myths about natural medicines is that they are not scientific,” says

Murray. “The fact of the matter is that for most common illnesses, there is greater support in the medical literature for a natural approach than there is for drugs or surgery.”

atural Awakenings of the Twin Cities is giving away tickets to the Minnesota Renaissance Festival, in Sha-

kopee. There will be 12 drawings for sets of two tickets to the festival which is held from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., weekends from August 22 through October 4. Entries can be by mail, Facebook or Twitter. Visit NAtwincities.com to learn more.

Cover artist Tiffany Seiler works in mixed media, including watercolors, acrylics, papers and objects like buttons to create whimsical, stylized portraits of girls that express delight and inno- cence. The cover work Love and Light was inspired by Seiler’s daily yoga practice. “I was raised in a family of all girls,” says Seiler. “My art is deeply rooted in positive female images surrounded by the things I love, like flowers, trees, the ocean and yoga.” Seiler is a self-taught artist, having returned to her childhood love of drawing and painting after working as a hairdresser and makeup artist for 20 years. Seiler’s works, many of which bear inspirational messages, have been reproduced for greeting cards found in national stores such as Trader Joe’s. Her art has also graced the pages of magazines such as Somerset Studio. Seiler currently lives, works and paints in Independence, Kentucky, joined by her husband and six rescued animals—three dogs and three cats.
