BEHIND THE SCENES HEROES The HKA Security Guards INTERVIEWED BY ALICIA AND ALASDAIR, GRADE 5
Guards David, Johnson and Eddie with Grade 5 students Alicia and Alasdair.
Our names are Alicia and Alasdair, and we interviewed all of our HKA security guards. Because the guards don’t work on the same days, we interviewed them over the course of two days. Here are their answers to our questions:
Do you like working as a guard? (Johnson) I like it because I can see the children and they smile to me.
Did you think of being this when you were a child? (David) I never thought of being a guard as a child.
Is it hard being a guard? (Eddie) Not hard at all, especially at HKA.
What is the best part of it? (David) Is to see the lovely students in the morning and when they dismiss.
How long have you been working as a security guard? (Eddie) One and half years.
If you were not a guard what would you be? (Johnson) I would work as a sales person to sell toys overseas.
Have you worked somewhere else before? (Eddie) Yes, of course, I came from a newspaper factory.
What are your work hours? (David) I work 12 hours everyday. I usually have 4 rest days every month.
Why did you become a guard? (Johnson) Ah, life, I want to get money to live my life.
Describe what you do everyday. (David) Everyday, I arrive at 6:20 am I arrange the contractor and visitor form, I put up the plastic barrier to protect the children, I come to the main entrance and open the main gate to welcome all students, and then welcome all visitors and guests and guide them to the reception. During the school dismissal, I make the barriers so that they dismiss safely. About 4:30 pm I join the other SG [Security Guard] and monitor the activities aſter school. At 6:30 pm I go home. During the Assemblies I arrange the barriers for the parents.
Where were you born? (Eddie) Hong Kong.
Do you have siblings? (Johnson) I have 5 brothers, 6 sisters, from one mother and one father.
What’s your favourite hobby? (David) Listening to classical music.
Who was your favourite super hero? (Eddie) Bruce Lee.
What’s your favourite book? (Johnson) I do not have so much time to read books. I can’t tell you what kind of books I like. I have not been reading in a long time because my job is so long and I live so far away. I think reading is good and will increase your knowledge and help you to do something. I hope you and other children can keep reading to help you get your dream.
